The skin is the body’s largest organ, yet so many people apply a blanket “one-size-fits-all” approach when it comes to their skincare routine. When the weather changes, so should your products. You wouldn’t wear sandals in the winter, or a scarf in the summer, and those same principles ring true when it comes to taking care of your skin.
As the weather starts to shift, so should your skincare routine. Our resident expert, Dana Broslovsky Class 6 Master Medical Esthetician (LME) is here to give you the lowdown on what that means for you.
With such enviable skin, the best place to start is the source herself, “My skincare routine changes pretty regularly depending on the condition of my skin. My regimen consists of products from our three skin care lines: Zo Skin Health, Skinmedica and Skin Better Science. I always make sure to wash my face before bed and use something to exfoliate my skin at least once a day.!”
Her favorite products? The Exfoliating Polish and Exfoliating Accelerator by ZO Skin Health.
Still, her favorite product du jour isn’t necessarily the one she recommends for everyone. By now, everyone knows that sunscreen is imperative to slow down aging and protect against harmful sun damage, “Right now, Smart Tone by ZO Skin Health is my favorite. It hydrates, protects my skin, and gives me a little glow to help get through the dull winter months.”
When it comes to more fun products, Dana also has thoughts, “In addition to SPF, I will never go a day without applying TNS A+ by SkinMedica. This is a powerhouse growth factor serum that really should be called the fountain of youth. It is an anti-aging miracle in a bottle. I use that twice a day without fail and will until the end of time.”
Building a routine can be intimidating, but Dana continues to stress the importance of sticking with it, explaining, “Anything can be accomplished when you are committed to taking care of your skin.”
Despite commitment to nourishing products, winter can be rough on the skin: during the colder months it becomes drier, dehydrated and more sensitive. Transitioning to spring means doing some damage control, and Dana is a big proponent of weekly masks advocating for the Egypitian Rose HydroJelly mask as well as ZO Skin Health’s soothing Aloe mask. And when relying on product alone isn’t cutting it? Dana’s got you covered there too, “HydraFacial MD is my go to. This is the perfect treatment to revitalize and freshen up your skin. There is nothing quite like it.”
In addition to shifting your routine as the seasons change, it’s also important to keep in mind how the skin changes as you age, too, “In our 20’s our skin is still so young, vibrant and full of collagen — we can afford to be a little more minimalistic. As we age, our focus should shift to incorporate products that address concerns such as fine lines, hyperpigmentation and skin laxity. We can’t stop the aging process but we can slow it down!”
Ready to take the plunge and ensure you’re doing the best for your skin? Dana definitely is, “There is nothing better than getting someone started on a good skincare regimen. I always start with the basics: cleanse, tone, exfoliate, hydrate and protect. Once we set a strong foundation the sky’s the limit.”
