What do BBL® Photofacial treatments address?

BBL® photofacial treatments can address a variety of conditions, typically being ideal for hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage.

Common concerns addressed by a BBL HEROic™ treatment include:

What happens during a BBL® Photofacial

01.

To prepare for your treatment, we first cleanse the skin, apply a clear gel to the treatment area, and provide eye protection.

02.

A handheld device delivers flashes of light into the skin, where it damages unwanted pigment, tissue, or blood vessels. The sapphire-tipped applicator keeps the skin cool and comfortable.

03.

After the treatment, the treatment area will feel warm for the next 30-60 minutes while your body begins to repair the damaged tissue and replace it with fresh, even-toned skin.

Combine BBL® and Moxi® Laser for the ultimate skin renewal

Moxi® laser treatments & BBL® Photofacials pair perfectly for dramatic results with little to no downtime.

What makes Moxi® and BBL® such a special pairing?

Moxi® delivers fractionated laser energy to create micro-coagulation zones which the body then repairs, replacing damaged cells with fresh new ones. Moxi® laser is designed to provide tonal and textural improvements to your face with low downtime, resulting in skin renewal.

BBL® Photofacials use the power of light to target the pigment within the skin — but not just any light. It uses the world’s most powerful intense pulsed light (IPL), called BBL® HEROic. It is the fastest way to treat pigment, sun damage and troublesome age spots anywhere on your body.

Together, these two treatments provide total body skin revitalization within minutes, and with little to no downtime.

Frequently asked questions

A treatment with BBL HEROic is generally well-tolerated by most patients. It is commonly described as feeling like a quick snap on the skin, with the sensation fading swiftly as the handheld device pulses over the skin.

Thanks to BBL HEROic’s CoolComfort™ technology, which cools the epidermis during the procedure, topical anesthesia is not necessary. After the treatment, it is normal for the skin to feel warm for about 30 to 60 minutes.

For two weeks before your appointment:

  • Stop using retinol
  • Avoid natural sun exposure and tanning beds
  • Avoid self-tanner, spray tan, or gradual tanning lotions
  • Keep your skin moisturized with a mild, unscented moisturizer

For three days before your appointment, it’s best to avoid:

  • Blood thinning medications, including Advil, Ibuprofen, and Aspirin
  • Alcoholic beverages

BBL HEROic™ is easily combined with other modalities, such as and MOXI™ laser treatments, for enhanced results and less downtime. It may also be combined with other minimally invasive procedures, such as dermal fillers or Botox®. During your consultation, your provider will create a plan to address your skin’s unique needs.

Both Moxi and BBL are well tolerated treatments. With Moxi, your provider may apply cooling air and a numbing cream to your face. BBL is fast with minimal to no discomfort, thanks to its advanced technology.

You will begin to see results within just one to two of your treatment. The best part of these treatments is that the results will only continue to improve over time.

There is no downtime associated with a BBL Photofacial, although you may experience mild swelling, skin sensitivity, and redness for a day or two.

Additionally, it’s important to diligently reapply sunscreen, as your skin will be sun-sensitive for a couple of weeks.

For the first 48 hours following your treatment:

  • Apply clean cold water compresses, aloe gel, or Arnica gel to alleviate any swelling, redness, or bruising.
  • Avoid exercise, excess sweating, and pools or hot tubs for at least 24 hours in order to avoid infection.
  • You may apply makeup with clean brushes, if desired.
  • If treated for rosacea, avoid alcohol, spicy foods, and caffeine.

For the first week after your treatment:

  • Use a mild cleanser and plain, unscented moisturizer.
  • Do not apply sunscreen immediately after your treatment, but be sure to apply and reapply sunscreen daily for the following two weeks.
  • Avoid skin products with active ingredients or exfoliating agents for one week.
  • Avoid rubbing, scrubbing, or physically exfoliating the skin with a washcloth or device like Clarisonic.
  • Do not pick or peel the treatment area, as this can cause scarring.

Photofacials are safest for patients with light, untanned skin. People with darker skin tones are more likely to experience burning, scarring, or hyperpigmentation.

Additionally, this treatment is not recommended for patients with melasma.

A BBL HEROic treatment typically takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the size and areas being treated.

Your provider will work with you to create a customized treatment plan that addresses your specific skin revitalization needs.

Typically, a series of three treatments, spaced approximately 3-4 weeks apart, is recommended. Once you have reached your goals, periodic maintenance treatments will help keep your skin healthy and glowing.

BBL or IPL: what’s the difference?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses a single wavelength of light to target melanin and hemoglobin in the upper layers of the skin, treating hyperpigmentation and vascular-based issues like rosacea and redness.

BroadBand Light (BBL) is a more advanced version of IPL that uses a broad spectrum of light to target skin imperfections below the skin’s surface. BBL can treat multiple skin concerns at once, is generally less painful than IPL, and typically requires fewer sessions.

Of the two, we greatly prefer BBL.

BroadBand Light (BBL) is not technically a laser treatment. BBL uses a broad spectrum of intense pulsed light (IPL), whereas lasers use a single wavelength of focused light.

BBL and IPL treatments generally require less downtime than lasers, can treat larger areas of skin, and are a good general treatment for addressing multiple superficial skin concerns at once.

Laser treatments typically require considerable downtime, are focused on small areas of skin, and target specific skin concerns.
